Hysterectomy Surgical Procedure
A woman who is contemplating a hysterectomy is usually not excited about the procedure. The procedure itself is now a same day surgery at best an overnight stay at the worst. The patient is usually home within 24 hours after surgery and then the recovery process after the surgical procedure from the hysterectomy can begin.
The hysterectomy surgical procedure involves the patient checking into the hospital usually on the same morning as the procedure. A patient will talk with the anesthesiologist and the patient and the doctor will talk about the patient’s options for anesthesia. The patient will then be given a drip IV with the medication or the patient will receive a shot of the medication. Any concerns you have or questions you have concerning your hysterectomy surgical procedure should be discussed with your physician before the hospital begins transporting you to surgery.
Once the hysterectomy surgical procedure begins, an incision will be made of about 5 inches across the abdominal area or if the hysterectomy is vaginal, then the cut will be minimal and the surgery will happen vaginally.
After the hysterectomy procedure, surgical teams will roll the patient into recovery and the patient will begin the recovery process. Before the patient goes home, the patient will receive medications and other instructions to ensure the patient is able to function with the pain while recovering nicely from the surgery.
If you have a choice in your procedures, then you should consider all options before having a surgical hysterectomy procedure. You’ll discover if you are able to choose which procedure you want, you’ll likely feel better about having the surgical procedure.
