Cervical Cancer Hysterectomy

What's the one form of cancer that is the most common form and it affect's a woman's reproductive organs? If you guessed cervical cancer then you are absolutely correct. In most cases of cervical cancer, it is believed that HPV (Human Papillomavirus) causes it. It's been recorded that this form of cancer occurs in women between the ages of 35 and 55. Now due to pap screening's the death rate has decreased incredibly over the past 40 years, However there are still around 4,000 women who die from invasive cancer, However one way to remove this form of cancer is by a cervical cancer hysterectomy.

Now in general cervical cancer does not produce any signs or symptoms. However if the cancer is able to progress then you may notice symptoms such as: Vaginal bleeding that may happen after intercourse, you may notice bleeding between periods or even after menopause. Another symptom maybe a vaginal discharge that may appear bloody, watery, heavy or have a foul odor. One other symptom you may have is pelvic pain or pain during intercourse. There are also factor's that may increase your chances of acquiring this form of cancer. These factor's can include ? multiple sex partners, early sexual activity, other types of sexually transmitted diseases, cigarette smoking and a weak immune system.

There are different types of treatment that you can do to remove this form of cancer. Ther eis a laser surgery to kill cancerous cells, conization which will remove tissue where abnormality is found, loop electrosurgical excision procedure which is a procedure that uses a wire loop to remove cells located at the mouth of the cervix, Cryosurgery ? this freezes and kills cancerous and precancerous cells and last but not least a cervical cancer hysterectomy. This is a major surgery that will remove cancerous and precancerous cells as well as the uterus and cervix leaving you unable to ever bare another child. This form of surgery is only used for severe cases.

If your doctor recommends for you to have a cervical cancer hysterectomy may recommend a simple hysterectomy which will remove cancer, cervix and the uterus. Another form is a radical hysterectomy which will remove the cervix, uterus and part of the vagina and lymph nodes in that area. Doctor's try to stay away from performing a hysterectomy for the fact that it's a major surgery and the woman will be unable to ever have children again and it's non reversible.
