Ovarian Cancer Research
Scientists and researchers are working hard to find a screening process, similar to that of breast cancer, to help detect ovarian cancer at its earliest stages. Ovarian cancer has been called the silent killer as many of the signs and symptoms of this disease do not often appear until its later stages. That is not to say that all cases of ovarian cancer can not be cured or treated successfully, just that it is harder to treat the longer it goes undetected. Medical professionals claim that if a screening process can be designed in the area of ovarian cancer research to accurately identify ovarian cancer when it first begins to develop that many lives could be saved from this terrible disease.
At this point in time however, there has been no success in this endeavor although research labs are working feverishly to find a way to help doctors detect ovarian cancer before the prognosis is less than favorable. Treatment plans developed by ovarian cancer research have advanced in their success rates but there is still more work to be done to identify the cause and factors that initiate the disease. It is known that family history, genetics, and possibly personal lifestyles may contribute to the development of ovarian cancer but there is much controversy over these issues.
Over recent years, great strides have been made in ovarian cancer research as well as other types of cancer and many scientists feel they are on the brink of determining the cause and finding a cure. Several cancer research institutes and hospitals have people working around the clock trying to develop a method of diagnosing ovarian cancer before it spreads or becomes more difficult to treat. Patients who have a family history or personal history of ovarian cancer should have regular checkups by their doctors or gynecologist to reduce the risk of it developing and not being detected as early as possible.
